Hi everyone! I admit, I have been lurking for quite some time now. But today is the day I finally signed up for this awesome support group!. I am not only a new member, but a new chicken mom. I am a city dweller so have to limit myself . I currently have 1 black star, Chicken Little, since she was 2 days old. She kept falling over and the flock would trample her. So needless to say, the rescuer that I am, I brought her home. She is now 10 weeks and unfortunately not walking at all anymore :(. She depends on me everyday to give her food, water and exercise. She lives indoors as well. So that being said, I had a nifty pre fab chicken coop all empty out back. I decided to go to my first poultry swap this past weekend to get some blue/green egg layin machine. But alas they were all sold out. So instead I decided on 2 Swedish Flower Hens. Never heard of them in my intense chicken researching. They were so sweet I had to get them. Their names had to match their very Swedish personalities so Astrid and Sigrid it was! They turned out to be very rare and expensive everywhere else! The introduction between the new girls and my gimpy love was rather uneventful. Today we all hung out on my bed because it was 98 degrees out and ALL 3 of my ladies aren't heat tolerant. They were just puffing away out there! They had a great day of pecking around while I worked on my laptop. I introduced the newbies to some herbs from the garden. They didn't want anything to do with them until Astrid saw Little chomping away. Then it was mine mine mine! Welp, sorry for the rambling on, I do love my little ladies . Im still in search of that perfect single Cream Legbar, but not having much luck. In the meantime, its just the three. Or its more like two and a half :)
ciao!

Welcome to BYC! Glad you joined the flock!

I bet the chickens were pleased to be able to hang out on your bed. Those Cream Legbars are hard to find! Good luck!

If my chickens found out that yours got to go inside, they'd hate me. Sounds like you're a great chicken parent. CLs are pretty hard to find locally. I just lost my last hen to a fox a couple of months ago. Had her since she was an egg. Never had Swedish Flowers but they are gorgeous birds. Good luck and don't hesitate with any questions you may have!
