New feather growth or mites?

I just need some extra reassurance. I check on my chickens twice a day most days and other days, its a several quick distant glances to be sure all is well. This morning, they were all good and happy, no huge lost of feathers. This afternoon, I went out early to check on them. Several of them had lost feathers on their upper bums/lower backs. All acting fine maybe even alittle more attitude than normal. Eating and drinking normal. They have like a hard, flaky yellow scab-like backs where there are no feathers. But I can see new growth also. Would they mites or new growth irritation or both together? I attached a picture of One of my girls. I have a mixture of different breeds and all are 8 weeks old. Any helpful suggestions or just positive encouragement would be appreciated. I feel like a horrible chicken mom for not seeing this before it got to this point if its mites.

They are definitely cramped for the time being. They are moving up to a bigger space this weekend. Thank you!
