Today is the day the new girls are officially part of the permanent flock. I purchased a group of 16 chicks in October from my local Rural King, and they all survived and are ALL PULLETS! I think I may have used up all my luck for the year
I gave some to friends and sold the extras, keeping these 5 for myself:
Turu, an EE, the most outgoing as a small chick so early on I thought she might be a cockerel.
Leca, another EE. I fell in love with her coloring and had to keep her!
Cher, a black Australorp, very curious and sociable.
Betty White, a gold-laced wyandotte
And finally, Banshee, a silver-laced wyandotte!
Adding these girls brings my current flock to 8, with 3 two-year-old hens that are still laying well. Fingers crossed for lots of eggs in a few months!
