New free range flock, Rooster ignores the pullets

You just described my current set up. The chicks are merged with the flock as in they stay in the same coop and run. But they are sub flock. I notice, that if I let them out, the hens and rooster explore a fair distance from the coop, but the chicks tend to stay a bit closer to home.

However, just like teenagers, they are the last to go to bed. You will know they are getting ready to lay, when their combs get red, and they become one flock, and the rooster thinks they are attractive.
