(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I had childhood chicken experience and as an adult kind of always had the idea of getting chickens in the back of my mind, but not quite sure if I was ready to commit. Last year about this time one of my daughters(9 at the time) had become pretty obsessed with the idea, and struck a deal with her daddy that if she saved up her money for some chickens, he would convert a shed we had into a coop. So we got 12 19-week old hybrid layers and that was the beginning. Lol
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Together my daughter and I have 14 hens, 2 roosters and 12 chicks.
(3) What breeds do you have?
hybrid layers, BYM, Barred Rocks, Ameraucana, and Easter Eggers
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
The fresh eggs and the fun of watching chickens do chicken things.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Woodworking, crafting, painting, sewing, drawing, upcycling and more, but too many to be truly good at any of them.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I’m a stay at home mom of four, married to a hard working carpenter. We’re Canadian, live on a 3 acre acreage, have barn cats, and homeschool for fun.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I’ve know about this site for quite a few years, and lurked quietly over the last year and I finally joined because we’re raising chicks this year and I’m finding I have a lot more questions.
