Hey everyone!! Just got back from the youth fair with my son and his bantam cochin to find out it's not pure cochin. He his gold feathers around his neck and we were told he must be a mixed breed, because he should be all black with the green sheen. Boy, what a bummer!!! So now we have to hunt for a new roo for him to breed with his Cochin frizzle. Anyone out there have a nice looking, maybe white, fluffy cochin bantam for a little boy in a wheelchair to purchase to use for breeding and to use at the Youth fair for 4H. He has earned 15.00 to spend on a new roo. And we are trying to sell his other roo which would make a great pet or alarm clock for $10.00. He's very pretty but can only take pure birds to the shows. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Phyllis

! Great to have you here! Sorry the cochin you bought was a mix! My best advice is to post in your states thread below:

or perhaps in the Buy-Sell-Trade Section here:

Good luck to you - hope it works out!

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan

Bantam cochins come in a color variety called brown red, which is a black bird with red/brown feathers around the neck. Maybe you could post a few pictures of your bird in the What Breed or Gender section of the Forum to get some other opinions.

Redsoxs gives great advice - welcome to BYC, and keep that boy enthused. Kids are the future of poultry keeping.
