On of my customers just told me about this site yesterday when I told him I was thinking about getting some hens. What a great resource! My partner and I just bought an 8-acre property that used to be used as a horse farm. Our only pets right now are our pack of 10 rescued mutts (3 total mutts, 6 Australian Cattle Dogs or mixes thereof, and 1 pit bull). Our property has 5 run-in sheds, and I am thinking about trying to convert on to a chicken coop. Any thoughts on that approach versus starting from scratch? We are busy as we both work full time, so my thought is to take this year to plan/build a coop and then get chicks next spring.

Anyway, glad to be here, and thanks in advance for all the great advice I am sure I will get here.

Welcome from MD!

Your idea about the coop is good. Why start from scratch when you already have a structure? There are lots of good coop pictures on this site; you could spend all day looking through them for inspiration. Hopefully you'll find a coop that looks like what you could make from one of your sheds.

Good luck!
