New from Idaho

Hi everybody, Great Site! I live a couple of miles outside Boise Idaho. I bought mixed chicks a few weeks ago for backyard egg production. I have 3 Barred rocks, 2 White leghorn, 2 Turkens, and 2 mystery birds I will be posting in what breed after this. I hope to have 4-6 hens when grown. I know already that one of the Barred rocks is a roo. To bad because he is one of my favorites.

. It's weird that your favorite Rock might be a boy 'cause my favorite Rock 'girl' is aggressive, protective and growing a comb larger than the rest of the clan leading me to believe that I also have a 'he'. Oh, well. At least I'll find out sooner than later what fresh chicken tastes like!

That was the dead give away for me. The larger red comb and all. The chick will be going outside on May 20th. I hear the Barred rocks are good eating. I guess I wont find out though. Still have to much Quail in the freezer I need to eat.
