New from Jackson MS. Urban location. New to chickens, have not done this since a tween/teen. Have 3 pet quality Silkies, well, 4, as we picked up another today. Not into breeding or show, but enjoy watching others do so, and hope to go to a show just to see it done. The Silkies just caught my heart, and I seem to go for pet quality, the kind of unkempt ones. We also currently have a box of bantam cochin and silkie chicks, all buff, and one all white newbie that seems to be a mix. Enjoying the girls and the little blush eggs they lay, and all the crooning, purring, clucking and socializing that they do. Hope to be getting some more bantam cochins soon. Been lurking about 2-3 weeks, and absolutely love the advice, ideas, questions, and the breed information on here. Thank you!

Silkies do make great pets, even some of the show ones and bantam cochins too. Some also make great broodies and you have them hatch other breed (fertile) eggs for you. Some people buy them just for that reason. A woman I know has 2 silkies and 2 serama house pets for years now. They even watch tv shows with her.
