I got my first four chicks in April and just got a few more. I am in love with them! The two white Wyandottes were taken by raccoons while I was on vacation and my brother was house sitting. But my two survivors are four month old black Australorps (Pigwidgeon and Buckbeak). My new chicks are two Welsummers and a Buff Orpington. I live in Wyandotte County in KC, KS with a half acre of land for my ladies to run around on. I'm looking to add a couple more ladies to the pack, maybe some olive eggers or Ameraucanas).
I'm in the process of building a bigger and more beautiful coop for them all. During the day, I teach art to a bunch of fabulous K-8 students. By night I have all sorts of fun (and sometimes expensive) hobbies: ceramics, painting, gardening, and now trying out wood building. Other occupants of my home include my fellow art teaching husband, foster cat Sheba, and typically classroom pet rats Luna, Remus, Nymphadora, and Teddy.
I'm new to chickens and have already spent a good amount of time on BYC researching my questions. I am excited to participate more than just reading others' posts.
