Thanks so much for the welcome! My husband is cursing over the coop now -- he's taken on a little more design than was probably necessary -- just wait until I remind him about the run! Jetdog suggested a dog run that you secure with hardware cloth and put netting over the top -- I have a feeling after all this building that just might be the ticket!

Thanks for all the great direction -- it seems like such a thorough, vibrant community! I'm relieved to meet some northerners as I have to tell you I'm a little nervous about the learning curve with our severe winters -- this last one was a real doozy with subzero temps and horrendous windchills for a month straight -- My husband read somewhere that we should just insulate but not use heating panels or heaters (other than a heat lamp I guess) because otherwise they wouldn't acclimate as they should -- just another one of those things I need to study!

Thanks again for such a warm welcome. I'm really excited -- it's been a dream of mine for a number of years now.
