Hello, I hope you all don't mind me joining even if I don't currently have any chickens. I'm really hoping and praying it's in my future though. My mom and I live together in Sparks NV (that's nestled right in next to Reno), and I'm frankly a little surprised she jumped on the chicken bandwagon so easily. Her family had some when she was growing up in Sacramento though, and I know she's fond of her sister's Silkies.
If we end up being able to get chickens, it might be a year or more, but I think I can manage to wait, ha! Our first obstacle will be zoning ordinance. My county's code is easily a "yes," but as far as city, I'm not sure yet. They are allowed in ag and one of the residential zones, but I'm not clear on what we are classified as yet. Will have to check on that. I do know our area used to be an ag zone, and that we we were fairly recently re-zone because some idiot just had to build apartments behind us.
I want to do this right and be absolutely bulletproof before we start. I'm going to check into the Nevada thread also and ask, but is anyone here familiar with Sparks' ordinances?
OK, so that wasn't at all long-winded, was it?
Random non-chicken information: I have a Bachelor's of Fine Art, work grudginlg in a warehouse, and would much rather be drawing and painting. Thank you all for list...er, reading, this!

Meant to add, I'm usually picky about editing my writing, but I'm posting this from my smart(dumb)phone.

I start out picky too, then as the day wears on, I just don't care too pooped out. You are right about wanting it to be bullet proof. Some people have to resort to having 'stealth chickens,' All it takes is one disgruntled neighbor to turn you in. Not worth that worry

Hello from Oregon & welcome to BYC. Hope you are able to iron out all the kinks & get a few chickens - Good luck
