My name is Janet and I live in a small country town in NY. I have a husband and four daughters. My husband and I (more me than him) are working on having a little homestead to help not only cut the cost of food down for our large family, but also to KNOW what is in what we're eating.
Right now I have eight chicks: three Golden Comets, three Black Sex Links, and two Rhode Island Reds. One of the Links (Velocaraptor) and one of the RIRs (Taco) enjoy the dickens out of trying to get out of the brooder. Right now I want them for eggs. I have a butcher I go to for organic chicken right now.
Next year we may add a goat. Then maybe a pig and cow if we can find a place with more land. I enjoy canning the veg garden, making jelly from my currant bush and apple trees, and dehydrating.
