Thanks for letting me join! 98% new to chickens. My earliest memory of chicken anything was of a mean game rooster my granny had. ole boy cut my face and granny put him in the pot. This was probably 40 years ago. Fast forward about 20 years,, had a few silkies. The internet wasnt around and didnt know alot about chickens, knew even less about how sneaky raccoons were or their apatite for poultry. 20 years later (Im 46) and expecting my first child and dont want her eating food pumped full of hormones and other junk that contributes to the explosion of childhood obesity.
SO, as of about a week ago, we acquired 10 chickens. 2 groups, a rooster and 4 hens of novogen for eggs and meat, and a group of bantam phoenix 4 hens and a rooster. I got the phoenix simply because of that "classic" rooster look of my childhood memory that spurred me in the face.
Other hobbies are reptiles. My wife and I have fat tail geckos, about 20 and we also use to breed blood pythons, thinning out the collection from over 50 snakes, down to about 20 now. We dont breed any more mainly just pets now. Then we have the "normal" pets, 2 dogs and 2 cats.
Found BYC on a quest to raise chickens the right way!
