We were down to six girls from eleven due to predators and a couple being sick. One ran into the woods near our house even though I told her not to (as if that helps), and I'm certain the raccoons, weasels, hawks, foxes, or a bear got her). I fixed a friend's computer and told her we'd barter for chickens since she's a homesteader and has provided all of our other chickens. So, she came over with four chickens and recommended a rooster that actually belonged to our son and daughter in-law, but was returned because they had two roosters by accident. We named him "Hugh." I wanted Erol (like Erol Flynn) or maybe "Cassanova," but we settled on Hugh. He's super gentle with us and the girls. That's one of two reasons we got him. The other reason is just so he can watch out for the girls while they free range. Here are a few pictures of our new family members.
