After milking my new nanny goat a couple times I have decided to just let baby Whimsey nurse her for the next week or two. she is giving about 8-10 ounces each time(4 times a day) so baby is getting plenty, plus its a million times better for her.

I am still hoping that the nanny will let the Whimsey nurse on her own instead of me having to hold her for the baby to nurse. maybe she's just not fit for adopting? i guess thats fine though, she does really well for me milking her. anyone have any tips on getting her more used to the baby? i penned them together for a bit but nanny keeps pushing her away.

nanny really needs a name

ETA: i forgot to mention that 1 side of her udder doesn't produce Near as much as the other. it's very small and i can only get about 2 oz out of it at a time. if i continue to milk that side will it start to produce more? or is it possibly just a defect? i am thinking this is why her previous owners got rid of her.

I have put new babies on serogate moms. It takes them a little while for the moms to accept them. I pen them together and hold the mom still for the baby to nurse. You can either put the nanny on a milking stand or hold the nanny by the collar and hold one back leg up in the air so the little one can get in there to nurse. Eventually the moms will let the little ones do it on their own. Kids are persistant and eventually will get their way.
The nanny might start producing more if you continue to milk that teat out. Her teat could have been sore and she might not have let the baby nurse as much on that side. Or if she was being milked they might have not milked that side out for whatever reason. It's hard to say with an auction goat what went on.

Well the big side(which was HUGE and hot) had a scab on the teat and another up higher, like her baby bit her?

i took the teat scab off and it was healed underneath and she was fine with me milking the big side after a coupel times. it's much softer now. the other side felt a little fuller tonight but i am just milking that side and the baby is nursing the big side.
