Hello all! Great to be here. I've been snooping for the past week or two and decided its just best to join. I'm new to the chicken raising community. When i was younger my father raised turkeys. Now I'd like to raise chickens. I think it will be a great experience for us. I live in a small town, Perham, MN. We have a household of 5 consisting of a 7, 5, and three yr old, including my fiancé and myself. We're trying to make our grocery bill lower including planting a garden and hopefully next spring raising 2 to 3 chickens. I have construction background and my fiance is great as a handy man/lady so building the coop should be a fun experience.

Anyways I look forward to talking with most of you and learning as much as I can.

So glad you decided to join! This IS the place to be when you own poultry.

Love your screen name. Ha!

Make yourself at home here and if you have any questions along the way, feel free to ask.

Welcome to our flock!

Welcome from GA. So very glad you decided to join.

Sounds like y'all will be a step ahead of most in coop building…would love to see pics when you do get it built.

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. Raising chickens is a great experience for children. My granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loves our chickens. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Do you have any breed preference?

No breed preference. I know literally nothing. Minus the little things in picking up here and there reading on BYC. Which I must say is an amazing site. Kudos to the guys who helped get this thing up and the members who really make it.

I'm kind of leaning towards 2 buff orpingtons and 1 barred rock. Just because I understand they are hardy enough for the minnesota winters and friendly enough for my kids.

The only draw back is that my fiancé is severely allergic to hay and straw so the bedding materials are going to be limited. However I have searched high and low. Luckily you guys make it easy for me to not have to post a million questions by just using the search button. Most of anything I ever need to ask is already said.

With that being said I am a sponge and will take in everything you all experienced folks tell me.

Last point. I apologize for any grammatical errors as I do not have a computer. Everything is done off my iPhone or tablet (which I downloaded the app for) and I love!
