New guy in Bethel CT!

Hello everyone Im new to the forums, although ive been lurking around the site for weeks now. I really want chickens but my town is ridiculous and wants 1 acre per 50 birds. I called the zoning department and told them i only wanted 6 birds but they said it didnt matter I still need the 1 acre. I than noticed that the zoning law states that there are no restrictions for household pets, so I again called them to discuss what I found and she said she couldnt give me a deffinite answer. So I guess I have 2 questions. 1 can chickens be considered household pets? I mean if a potbellied pig can why not a chicken. 2 I spoke with my neighbors and they said they didnt mind, how much trouble could I really get in? Id think at the most a fine. Any ideas, or fellow CT chicken keepers with a similar situation? Im most likely just gonna go ahead with my plan just wondering what people thought. Thanks and I look forward to meeting some of you on my journey
