new guy in Md

Roosty wife thought it was going to be a rooster but staggered feathers on wings should be a lady correct?
Feathering has nothing to do with it. He is a cockerel. He'll be a rooster when he's a year old.

So if the staggered wing feathers is not a good way to tell them apart what method is? Video after video and the couple people i know that have raised chicks says its a way to tell? Local law says no roosters but we are on a acre with a church on one side and guy on other side has a rooster dont see him complaining about noise but they also say 8 so OOOPS! thanks again from the new guy :)

I'm mostly familiar with trying to sex silkies which is pretty much not until they are four months old, and even then, some won't be definite. It's mostly their combs and hackles, and later, their tail feathers.

Only certain breeds can be sexed using wing feathers. Some breeds can be sexed by feather coloring and/or head spots (crested cream legbars, bared rocks for example) and others by vent only- that one is a job only for well trained professionals, and some people even have dna tests done.
There are a lot of old wives tales, such as holding the chick upside down to see if it lifts itself or hangs loose. That's about as accurate as holding a string over a pregnant woman's belly.
