We recently figured out that our "hen" is actually a rooster so we are going to have to give him to another home. :( We have 3 other pullets (hopefully pullets). They are all about 2-3 months old. Since we're giving away our Easter Egger we would like to get another one from the same person we got the others. What age would fit in with them? I don't want the new chicken to be killed or anything! The other chickens aren't very old but still! So what age should I get the new pullet as? Will she always be the one picked on? Advice? Thanks!

The chickens that I have:
Barred Rock- Dyna
Red Star- Sinco
Black Star- Inkwell
Easter Egger- Heritage (The one we have to give away)

Hi there,

Don't worry we introduced four newby's to our original four and they all fought like cat a dog for a week, but right from the off it got less and less until they all now get along just fine. There is a two month difference in ages and they all were bought point of lay if that helps any.

Thanks so much! Do you think they'll fight while their so young or no? Should i just let them do their thing or should I do something to keep them from fighting?

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan :D

Get one of a similar age and size as the ones you have. keep your new bird separate but within sight and hearing of your other birds for a few days. Then try it with 1 of your other birds. Once they have made friends you should be able to mix them all together

Sorry for the delay in returning your message, the punch ups go on for about two weeks and to be honest they always keep the newby's in line with an occasional peck to the back of the neck. When im in the run and when I'm not looking one of the older birds will have a go at a newby, the resultant squark will always catch me off guard. Lol
