Hello! I am a first time chicken keeper. Got my first two chicks at 2 days old...a Black Australorp and a Black Ameraucana on my birthday (March 3rd) so they have grown a bit by now (July 27th) Yesterday they turned 21 weeks. So, chicken math is an actual thing because all of a sudden 2 weeks after I got those girls...two Easter Eggers appeared! Then another two weeks later a Barred Rock and a White Rock came along! We are in SE Wisconsin. The first picture was on April 12th and the girls all went outside to play together for short times...it was still chilly out but they loved the grass and dandelion leaves! The second picture is on July 11th so just a little over 2 weeks ago. They are grouped in the pairs as the came home in. Each pair sleep in 48 gallon plastic totes with hardware cloth covering the top with aspen shavings...in our living room! (Still haven't decided on a coop yet) It works out because they are safe and we are okay with it for now. Honestly though, I cannot wait for the day the Fluff Butt Hutt is ready for them so I can have the living room back!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Beautiful flock you have! ❤ Build a large coop, you and the birds will appreciate it. If you aren't the builder, sheds make wonderful coops, easy to have set up, easy to convert into a coop.

Make yourself at home here! And welcome to our community!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
I second the vote to convert a shed into a coop. It's very easy to do if you have any building skills at all. Make sure that you install copious amounts of ventilation. Do not think in terms of square inches but more in terms of square feet. You want to shoot for as close to one square foot of permanently open ventilation per bird in the coop. You also want to have about four square feet of floor area that does not include nest boxes for each bird in the coop.

Welcome to BYC! Thanks for sharing pics of your chicks.
Converting a shed is a great an easy coop idea. Or, if you're handy, you can try building your own coop. Lots of ideas over in the Chicken Coops page. Try and figure out what you want to build ASAP. Your chicks need a lot more space then totes to sleep in.

Hello! Welcome to BackYard Chickens. We hope you enjoy your stay! :)

I third on the shed idea. Your birds need more space than buckets, and they will appreciate having a lot of room in a shed coop! Your chickens are beautiful, by the way. Is the Ameraucana straightbred?
Thank you! Yes, she is a straightbreed
