Hello!

I recently just purchased two 5 1/2 month old egg laying (or so I was told) Rhode Island red hens from our local feed store. I put them in our coop five days ago and yet I have not seen one egg. I have noticed that both of them seem to have rather watery poop and have been drinking a lot of water. I am wondering if it is common for hens to go through sort of a shock when changing environments and if this is just a phase? Both are rather friendly, come out of the coop to forge a little during the day, have even let us pick them up and appear to be in great health otherwise. Any input tips or tricks are greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I agree with the other post, chickens are really sensitive to change and it reflects in their egg production. You may even find that the first eggs you get from them are misshapen or cracked. This is also due to stress from the move. Just give them time and they’ll be laying nice light brown eggs for you!

Thanks so much! I’m so excited!😁

That's not good, pics might help here if you can get some clear ones.
What all and how exactly are you feeding?
Is it hot where you are?
Where in this world are you located?
Climate, and time of year, is almost always a factor.
Please add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, and then it's always there!
