Hey everybody!
I've noticed over the winter that every google search for chicken related stuff I do lands at BYC. I finally decided to jump on board.
I have three young kids (3,4, and 6) who are super excited and a wife (mid-30's
who is growing more excited. We've been picking up our flock over the last couple weeks--we are at 17 birds right now and we have two left to get.
Soooooo, we're looking very forward to having more eggs than a family of 5 could possibly eat--and still the original reason it seemed like a good idea to get chickens was for poo and their help in composting.
Our flock consists of 2 gold laced Wyandottes, 2 silver laced Wyandottes, 7 puff Orpingtons, and 6 ISA's. We have to pick up 2 barred rocks yet to satisfy my oldest daughter, and then we are done
. All pullet.
I'm hoping for a couple of really mean roosters in the bunch because that will likely be the only way my favorite little ladies will let me cook any birds--though my homework led me to these breeds because they are supposed to be relatively calm breeds. Finding a mean one is probably unlikely.
I'm looking forward to meeting everybody in here! Thanks for all the knowledge you all have already shared and for the stuff that you all have yet to share. I'm looking forward to BYC conversations as a great supplement to when I can't physically be in our garden or with the birds
