Hi all! So we are a family of 6. Me, my husband, 3 teens and a 5yr old. We bought 6acres back in April and are starting a homestead. Of course chickens were the first thing. We bought an assortment of 16 baby chickens in May. We lost 4 as babies, lost 2 in our recent hurricane 😭(Florida) and then found out we had 5 roosters. Our hens just started laying a few weeks ago which is so exciting. We LOVE our chickens and we try to give them our absolute best! We got rid of three of the 5 roosters and have two left. We may get rid of one more, but we love them both and one is so gentle, so we’re trying to keep both. The two roosters are a black copper Moran and a buff Orpington named David and Gideon. Then we have 5 laying hens with a beautiful assortment of eggs colors. We have an Amberlink, her name is Hannah, a black autralorp named Elizabeth, a silkie named Anna, A cream Legbar named Ruth, and an Olivia Egger named Naomi. We just bought 5 new pullets who are all hens, two buff Orpingtons, 2 Easter eggers, and a silkie. So when they integrate into the flock it will be 10 hens with the two roosters. We realize it should only be one rooster per 10 hens, so we’re prepared to get rid of Gideon if we need to. I found this group because our laying Hen Silkie started acting weird today. Just kind of standing around. Her crop is full and feels soft like a water balloon, so we think she may have Sour Crop. 😭 We separated her and gave some neutradrench. Also left some water with her with ACV in it and left some grit too. We’ve seen her drink with encouragement but not eating. If you have any advice for us, we would greatly appreciate it. We would like to save her life. I will add some photos for some fun. Also they do free range all day everyday. IMG_4710.jpeg IMG_6079.jpeg IMG_6011.jpeg IMG_5995.jpeg IMG_5976.jpeg IMG_5795.jpeg
