Hello fellow friends of feathers! I can’t believe it’s taken me 3+ years to finally… officially… join BYC, but alas, I’m learning my lesson… albeit, many hard lessons, the hard way. I’ve been dealing with an unbelievably bad mange-mite infestation for a few months to no avail! We’ve been using every type of mite killer you can think of plus dirt-bath mixtures of sand, wood-ash & DTE but these dang stubborn mites have only gotten worse! However , in doing more research we found on a forum here something new that looks very promising… a “pour-on” ivermectin treatment normally used for cattle but many here said it worked without harming our feathered friends. So we ordered it annd then it arrived yesterday .. so then we dosed every single one of my 16 chickens after bedtime last night. Feathers crossed that it’s doing its magic! I’ll follow up on a second dose in a week and will keep everyone posted on our progress. But if this doesn’t work, we may be out of options other than a blanket culling of the entire flock which we desperately don’t want to do! Again, feathers-crossed!!!
