Hi! I'm new to this site and to keeping chickens. I have two girls, a barred rock (Elsa) and a golden laced Wyandotte (Cleopatra AKA Cleo). We got them to keep as pets with benefits :) they're a few months old now so no eggs yet. We keep them in a little coop that we move around our backyard every couple of days and we let them free range, (supervised because of neighborhood cats) as much as we can. I have two daughters, 4 and 2 and they love them! Still working on the chickens being comfortable with us holding them.

Anyway, is there anyone else here in Broussard?

hi i'm a new member also, live in Concordia parish. used the site a lot though. welcome to the bad addition or fowl and friends. hey sounds like a new thread name. I have or have raised most everything from nutria, skunks, chicks, ducks goats, new passion is hair sheep, guinneas and peafowl (peacocks). but chicks seems to always reappear in my life. they remind me of my grandmother. she always had atleast a hundred of she thought she was chicken poor. use to hatch an egg on stove top over polite light (old stoves are the best) wrapped in cloth - for me every spring. once you get started you'll be wanting buy more for the kids of course. mine is 17 and I still buy " her easter chicks and ducks". bought my mother-in-law chicks for mother's day. bad addiction, but o' so rewarding. sorry I kept rambling. welcome
