I was raised around a lot of different farm animals, but save for one Pekin duck my grandmother got me, I have virtually no experience with them. Well, the hubs and I decided to get 2 duckling for our boys (and me!) and are in the process of building them a pen while they feather out in the house. The man we got them from has no idea what kind they are, as they were in a brooder with 10-12 others, all mixed.
Do you have any ideas what kind they may be? We believe the yellow one to be a female, as it is much louder and more vocal than the brown. Could be wrong, but that is just what we are thinking. The dark one is brown, as you can see.
The yellow one has flesh colored feet, but she wouldn't show them. As her feathers are growing she is starting to get a dark area along her back and what looks like a red/pink line along the top of her wings.
Excuse their box - it is cleaning day but haven't gotten to it yet.
Oh, and they are just about 3 weeks old.

The brown one is a khaki Campbell and the yellow one looks just like my welsh harlequins when they were younger. Cute babies!

That would make sense bc the yellow one's bill was light with just a dark tip when I first got them, and now it is almost all dark. They say that means a female. I do hope it's a welsh harlequin - those are pretty!
And the khaki campbell seems to fit the bill, too. LOL Cheesy pun, sorry! :)
Thanks for the help!

Your ducklings are adorable, enjoy them.. and

No problem lol it was a good one though. Sounds like it but my experience with them is kinda off. From what I've read they change color after about 2-3 days but mine arrived on day 2 and their bill colors haven't changed and as they feather out my dark billed one looks like a boy while the one with a spot looks like a girl. Its quite weird that the bills never changed color. But I'm guessing since it did with you that it would be a girl. :) congrats on your new babies

Thanks so much! I have been reading info from this site for a while now, and finally decided to just join the group. LOL
Some of these links I have not yet read, though. Will be using this week to do so, as we all are sick and don't feel like doing much of anything else. :)

Sorry your all sick, that a bummer. at least you have up close and personal duck tv to from your intertainment. and glad you finally joined.

Looking at the Apple yards, there is one difference and that is the bill color. I think with the darker bill it leans more towards a WH. But, yes, I think y'all are both right about the K Campbell.
Will it be an issue having different breeds of different sexes, if I ever wanted to let her have some ducklings?

I noticed the dark beak and agree that it's most likely a WH. For funsies, though, here's an impromptu pic of one of my 2 week old appleyards, who has a rather dark beak, although hard to tell with the bad lighting. Enjoy your duckies! They grow so fast!

As for breeding, I don't know much about that. I'd imagine as long as there are no Muscovies, there wouldn't be issues, but someone more knowledgable should confirm.
