Hey there!

We are a homeschooling family who lives in Riverside, CA. 92503. I have been researching and researching about raising a few chickens (less than 4). It would be super awesome for the kids to experience (myself, too)!

Basically, we are in zone R-A. I was reading on our county website that we need a lot size of 20,000 or more to even have chickens on our property. We are on a lot size of approx. 9,000.

Could someone help? My mind is spinning and I am uber confused.

Thanks so much in advance!

Just noticed your post in the re-homing section and saw you only had 3 posts so I read your posts and saw that no one had as of yet welcomed you to Backyardchickens, soo I wanted to welcome you to BYC! I also live in the Riverside area. Used to be Riverside but a little over a year ago became incorporated into the new City of Jurupa Valley. I hope you find your Roosters a home, I have way too many Roosters or I would take them. What kind of chickens did you finally get? If you would like a couple girls I have extras. Well good luck on finding them a new home, and you have a nice day.

Hello! Welcome to BYC. It's great to see some more SoCal folks!

I would recommending calling your local animal control, giving them your zip code and asking them to confirm. I am in the city of Los Angeles and am allowed 5 hens, no rooster as long as they as 25 feet from any residence.

I would the rules vary by zone and get pretty confusing but animal control should be able to clear it up for you.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes.
