(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Not really new to chickens, have had them for about 8 years now but usually just barnyard mixes for eggs. Now we're starting on specific breeds.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
13 Americaunas, 3 Wyandottes, 4 Barred Rock, 13 Light Brahma Giants, and 5 Emu (2 adults, three chicks)
(3) What breeds do you have?
Previously we've had Gold and Silver Laced Wyandottes, Rhode Island Reds, and Leghorns. More recently though, we've acquired 3 Emu chicks (2 standard and one blonde). We've had two adult emu for a little over a year now, and still learning about them. We've also recently bought some Light Brahma Giant chicks to breed.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Google of course.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I make clay fairy houses, paper mache' masks, quilting, and write.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We have a farm of about 230 acres. My husbands original dreams was cattle. Lots of cattle... and then he married me. Now he's discovered it's a big world full of variety, and not just cows. We do have cows by the way, just.. we have lots of other things as well. We currently raise Katahdin sheep, Nubian goats, Huacaya Alpaca, horses, Emu, Chickens, and looking into a few exotics in the future. I do equine rescue, and recently took in my 6th old girl, and we're registered fosters with the ASF (Australian Shepherds). I take care of the farm while my husband works as an electrician. We have three daughters, and one son.. and between them have 4 grandbabies. I stay busy.
