Good afternoon,

I'm lisa and I'm new here! Two days ago my kids and their friends found a chicken wandering in our neighborhood. She was injured, as if some animal had gotten a hold of her. They went around to our neighbors whom we know have chickens, but they all denied that she was theirs.... then the next day they found another, with similar injuries in a far later stage of healing. Needless to say, we have ordered the coop and are going to keep these babies as our own. I am open to any advice on anything chicken related. Excited to have them in our brood!

Welcome to BYC 1.gif

You are an accidental chicken keeper!

You are very lucky. I have yet to have a chicken show up at my house that way

It was a total accident, but these birds were sent to us, at least that's how it feels! We have fallen in love with them and can't wait to watch them heal and start laying eggs again!

Laying eggs is a good thing with hens. Egg laying = health in hens under about age 5

Welcome! :yesss: We are glad you joined our flock!

learn chicken math... you need to get at least one more in case something should happen to one. Chickens are social animals and do not do well alone. So adding chickens is done in pairs at a minimum ( 6 if you buy them from tractor supply or Rural king) .

I had only one duck egg hatch from a clutch that was abandoned.... she now has 4 more chicken friends ( cause the chain I went to I could only talk down to 4 from the mandatory 6 despite having over 30 birds on m property). Since it will be 4-8 weeks before chicks can be introduced to the main flock, I needed enough to keep them company.

We plan to get one more, but we want these two to heal up a bit more first.
