I'm really interested in getting chickens and just learned that if your land isn't two acres or more that you can't have any chickens in my area. Can you say I was very upset to learn that about the zoning laws in my area. So I'm just going to read and learn and hope one day in the future when we move I can get some chickens.

! Pleased you joined us but sorry about the "No Chicken" policy of your town. You might take a look at the links below. The first is about taking on such ordinances to get them changed. The second is a link where you can look up your state and converse with locals who may have some insight that might be helpful. Good luck to you!

I actually talked directly with the ordinance officer because hubby wanted to find out if they were legal before we got them. He said he had already closed down a few coops on the road I live on. I only have maybe 3 neighbors at the most that can see my yard and I even told him they have no problem. I even told him I wanted them just for the eggs and he informed me to just go to the store its cheaper than raising them.

I think I'm going to have to try and work towards getting the ordinance changed. I mean I had just changed hubbies mind before I found out the ordinance by telling him how good their poop is for his garden, how they eat bugs, and how good fresh eggs are. Than wam I find out I can't have them.
