This morning a new homer is flying with my little flock! It is beautiful, pure white male (I think). It probably belongs to the neighbor a mile away who also has white homer pigeons, but maybe decided that it needs new genes to hook up with

. I hope it stays because my young females need new boyfriends too as their only options around here are brothers or half-brothers! (guess I better call my neighbor though...)

In a lot of countries around the world if your pigeons "catch" a neighboors pigeon it becomes yours. However yes please ask him. However if it likes your birds it may come back again lol.

Strange birds joining your flock can be a source of disease. During the homer young bird season, I frequently have homers trapping in with my Birmingham rollers. I immediately remove them to a quarantine loft, feed them up for several days and then release them. They almost always leave hopefully to find their way home.

Ya, well, last night I watched the young homer try over and over (and over!) to get into my pigeon loft, but the old patriarch wasn't going to let him in for anything! So, this morning I am back to my old flock (and the young one is back home at the neighbors!). I will get one of my neighbor's fledgelings and put it in with my homers so that it has its first flight with mine... then they should accept it (hopefully!).
