Hello,

Got my beautiful 23 week-old Australorpe and Rhode Island Red hens a little over a month ago. They're named Misty & Logan.

My wife, although hesitant at first, is now completely in love with them as well.

I'm pretty proud of the coop design, as I converted an old dresser I found on the street, and I've built a giant U-shaped run so they can work the edges of my garden.

This link to my blog post has the pics of the coop and run, as well as a financial analysis I did of whether or not it's possible to "re-coop" your costs with backyard chickens:

Ha! If I knew I could keep chickens in the city, I never would have left Brooklyn. Good luck to you and your birds.

from Ohio. So glad you joined. That is a great coop idea for a couple of chickens. When determining cost effectivenes of raising our own chickens, one must also consider your health care cost as well. Raising your own chickens are much better for your health than the store produced birds.

We've been talking about that article on another thread... cute coop. Some of us are also banging our heads about the freedom you have in NewYork to keep chickens more easily than some of us who live in the woods.
Good luck with your new pets and welcome to BYC!
