I recently made the mistake of getting over 47 silki chickens and they were taken one-by-one off of our farm by hawks and coyotes over the course of a week. We are so new to farming and had no idea of how to fix the problem. We had a safe haven for them and let them "free range" during the day and suspected that was when they were taken during the day...

We don't want to make that mistake again. We need to learn what to build before we obtain chickens this time.

We want the best tasting eggs.

We want the kindest chickens (tamest for kids).

We want them safe.

I have experience with birds. I used to breed Cockatiels, but that was a different life... They were very safe in my home... I don't want to lose these chickens... It was very sad for our girls to lose each bird.

Anyway, we love our farm. Any advise and help would be great!

Hey there and so sorry for your loss, I totally relate!!
Something that my family is just about to try for hawks is to string fishing wire all over the place above the free range pasture. Supposedly that will deter them better than anything!
