My wife and I have been talking about getting chickens for a few years now. She said I could get some chickens when I finished the coop. Well, I finished the coop and now we have four beautiful ladies. We decided to name them the Golden Girls. We have Dorthy who is an Autralorp, Rose is a Rhode Island Red, Blanche is an Ameraucana, and Sophia is a Barred Rock. They are all about 5 weeks old now. We were blessed to be able to purchase our one day old chicks locally through a contact at the farmer's market.
I've been reading BYC quite a bit to get some tips and ideas for raising our chicks. So far they are all healthy and happy! Our only other family member is our yellow lab, Moses. He's intrigued and also a little nervous around the chickens. He plays nice for now, but we keep a very close eye on him. That's it for now. I'm going to try to put a picture in this post. Not sure if it'll work out.
