Howdy BYC, been lurking your site for almost a year now. Finally made an account this morning while sipping my coffee.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

My wife and I moved into a new(old) house last fall and inherited 2 hens. With the help of this site I learned they are Calico Princess birds. A neighbor gave us a barnyard rooster. I'm a greenhorn when it comes to chickens, enjoying watching them more than I thought I would.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

So the 3 chickens above got re-homed last night to a local that keeps a lot of birds as pets/hobby. Reason being the rooster had become a terror and neither of us could be in the runs without a broom and a sharp eye. Had spring chicks from Meyer's in a separate run and getting more pullets and a rooster from same neighbor for a total of 8 birds.

(3) What breeds do you have?

From Meyer's in May one each- Australorp, Barred Rock, Buckeye and Columbian Wyandotte hens, will be 18 weeks Monday. From neighbor a Partridge Rock and a Welsummer Hen, 8 weeks Monday and another barnyard rooster (think mostly leghorn) that is about 10 weeks.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

Watching the birds and reading some threads about genetics and breeding. @The Moonshiner Leghorns thread comes to mind.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

whitetail deer, turkeys and tomatoes

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

Married for 13 years. In the house is an old lady Russian Blue mutt cat and a middle age black cat. Had an amazing shepherd mix, an Appalachian Crap Hound for 14 and a half years before we put him down. Still not ready for another doggo after that loss

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

Found BYC searching for info on the two inherited hens almost a year ago, was caffeinated enough to sign up this morning. Busy with work and life so won't be the most active poster. Have learned a lot from this board, so thanks for that!

Welcome to BYC!!
