Hi y'all, my husband and I just picked up 8 baby chicks from the feed store and we are very excited to begin our chicken keeping journey. We are putting the finishing touches on our coop and run, and we are looking forward to our babies growing into the space.

There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends

Thanks y'all! I've been stalking the pages for a few years, but finally joined when we got our first chicks. They've been moved into a bigger brooder space as there was a little pecking in the smaller chicken setup from the feed store. When I bought it,is had no idea my husband was going to say "they're so cute, let's get 2 of each kind, so I bought the medium sized habitat. They have since graduated to a 42" dog kennel with the bars covered half way up until they get big enough to not fit through. I feel much better about the heat lamp being fully inside their home so less likely to get knocked onto something and start a fire.
