Hi all. My name is Donna and I'm new to this forum. We just "adopted" 2 chicks from my boys elementary school. This is my first time delving in to raising chickens but my husband had some in Maine when he was in his teen years. I know I'll have lots of questions and am glad to have found a place that can help me on this new adventure.

I think I figured out what one of the chicks is but still not sure of the other. Unfortunately, we're now thinking one may be a rooster.
Here s a picture of my chickens. They're a day or 2 away from 4 weeks old. If anyone can offer some insight on breed or sex, would me much appreciated.

Thanks!

This is the one I don't know the breed and think is rooster.

Hi :welcome Donna

Glad you could join the flock! Congratulations on your new chicks :celebrate They sure are beutiful birds. Could you get a picture of the one you are unsure of as a full body shot? You can post in the what breed gender section of the forum. Here is the link ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/15/what-breed-or-gender-is-this

Wishing you the very best of luck with your new chicken venture. I'm sure you and your family will enjoy it very much. It's a great family hobby that everyone can be involved in.
Be sure to ask any questions, everyone here to help and very friendly.

Enjoy those new babies and BYC :frow

glad you have joined us.

I'm not experienced enough to give you a guess, but would suggest you get more pics on both and post under what breed/gender and will get more opinions.

You really should make plans for how you will manage if one is a roo. Most folks recommend 1 roo for 8 or more hens. And even if both turn out to be pullets, they would be happier with a flock of 3 or more.

If you haven't already done so, you should explore the learning center, there's so many helpful articles on raising baby chicks and managing your flock.

Good luck with your new adventure.

Thanks for the input! I will post some more pics in the breed/gender thread as well.
Appreciate your responses and welcomes. Looking forward to exploring the site more and learning lots.

Welcome to BYC, Donna! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Congrats on your birds! The light coloring and large comb are suggesting you have a rooster but I'm not 100% sure. I'd post in the link provided by Yorkshire Coop and also check out this article https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/is-my-chicken-a-pullet-hen-or-a-cockerel-cock

Good luck with your flock and welcome to ours. Glad you joined!
