Well, we got our chickens last night. Sadly, their coop is not entirely done, so they will have to stay inside the hen house a few days. But... I am very excited about them...we got 3 ameraucana hens, I know everything I read says they are probably not true Ameraucana but rather Easter Eggers, but how do I tell? Also got 2 Buff Orpington/Austrolorp mixes. Along with these cute hens, (ranging in age from 10 months to 2 1/2 yrs) we got a 6 month old Ameraucana/Banty rooster.
I am nervous about the dogs, we had chickens several years ago and one of our dogs killed them all. She is much older now and doesn't get around so well anymore, and I don't think she will be able/willing to break into the coop. But still nerve wracking.
Anyway, I am looking forward to learning more and more about chickens, and can't wait for those eggs!

Good luck with the dogs. and welcome
