OK I hardly know where to start! I have been reading this site for a long time and the info and humor is amazing! I am already addicted! Got a new hovabator with fan and turner( there is no way I would remember to turn) for what I considered one of the best prices-$113.14 including shipping from Cutler Supply. Anyway, I finally got it regulatedto 99.9F(strted out at 113) What should the humidity be and I thought I would start with some eggs from my chickens in the coop for a first try. I have some purebreds but they are not separated right now, since it is 34 here what do i do about collecting some eggs over a few days to put in the bator so i start them all on the same day? :

Congrats on your new addiction! The humidity should be anywhere between 35-50 with 40-50 working best for me for the first 18 days. The last three I raise it to between 65-70%.
It's best to put the eggs in the same day so at Day 18, you don't compromise the later one with too high humidity. Collect them over three or four days, store them under 65 degrees, but over 50 degrees, aircell end up. Then put them in all at the same time, after allowing them to come up to room temps so you don't have condensation. The bator temps will fall slightly when you put them in, but don't adjust the bator where you have it set. When all their internal temps come up to bator temp, it will regulate.

For your acronyms go to the sister BYC Ezboard message board, which is listed here on the home page as one of the two message boards... under the Thread Notable Archives is a post and list of those....

Well, another poster beat me to the punch on where to get them. So I will say this the most important ones and the ones most made fun of are DH and DW. Depending on who is doing the typing.

ok i think i need to invest in a thermometer company i need one in every room - i bought a digital one at wally world with a humidity (walmart) accurite brand and put it in the bator in the water wiggler. is that accurate enough? i also have the on to put on top of the eggs that came w/ the bator
I hate wally world but sometimes i have no choice:(
I love byc:love and i wonder how all of you get anything done:)

Just make sure that the AcuRite is inside the bator to read humidity, as the probe only reads temp. That is a common mistake and could be a tragic one-sounds like you have it in there, if I read you right. The one that came with the bator is probably not accurate; they rarely are.

thanks so much speckled hen:clap I just put the whol therm. in the bator. It has taken me a while to regulate it. it is in the liv. rm but i am beginnign to think that is too drafty, but the tmp hasnt chaged much except when i open the bator. Is that ok? Also is the other therm that came with the bator ok to use to ck the temp of the room where i keep the eggs to get ready to go to the bator?
