HI!
My husband & I both grew up on farms in Northeast Ohio (Andover, to be exact). Then we got married & moved into the city for a while (blech), then finally we were able to make the big move to Cbus! We have just over 15 acres in the country & we couldn't be happier!
I always had chickens growing up, fresh brown eggs were a staple for me. When we bought theis house it came with 10 free-range chickens (9 hens, 1 roo). We lost a couple to predators & I had to give the rooster away because he insisted on crowing directly under our 1 year olds window during his nap time, no matter how much I chased him around. So we bought 6 speckled Sussex pullets (or so we were told...) from TSC this spring. We enjoyed them so much that when it became time to integrate them with the outside flock I decided to buy 6 mixed bantams. They are turning out to be all sorts of fun.
We aren't getting many eggs at this point, & I believe the hens that came with the house are older (4ish years) while the ones we purchased are still too young (around 3 months).
Unbeknownst to my hubby (who also really enjoys these chickens) I ordered 15 different breeds from ideal poultry. I also ordered a couple books & upon doing some research I stumbled across this site. After lurking a little I decided to join!
