Ok, first of all I want to say is that I really love this forum. This is my second go around with chickens. I decided to get more chickens a few months ago for a few reasons. First reason is because the price of good quality eggs in CA is outrageous! Secondly I like to bake, cook , and love....to eat eggs. May I add that I have alway been drawn to animals, and as a child I alway dreamed of living on a farm. Unfortunately that dream never happened. I live in Garden Grove California, in a a residential neighborhood, surrounded by family and loved ones. Don,t get me wrong, I'm not complaining just expressing. I've been very blessed to be where I am, but really have a desire to leave the city. Where do I go form here, I ask myself? The weather here is perfect! I read how some of you have winters that are freezing with snow up to the top of the coops. Man, could I handle that...,I ask myself? I think not!!! Oh well, so sorry about ranting, I didn't intend on writing a novel!
Believe it or not....I do have a question for you folks- I heard that song that everyone dreams of hearing, at 6:15 this morning.
So I run out to the coop and find Rosie talking to me. Immediately I looked, and saw that she had laid her first egg. but it was broken and lying on the floor of the coop.
From what I gather, it's normal for shell to be thin but what I clearly saw was one broken shell, and two yolks in two separate areas. One perfectly formed egg with the white sounding it' and one broken yolk that were six inches apart from each other. Now I don't know if anyone has ever experienced that.. but that was really bizarre. Can someone explain what could have happened this morning? This happened directly below the perch. I go to clean the mess and I find her in the nesting box. So needless to say I'm "Dazed and Confused" !!!!
As I'm writing you folks, I found my two other girls in the their nesting boxes. I think Rosie got the egg rolling!!! I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
