We hatched some chicks this year. 1st year doing so at this level. I am not sure what breed this is or if she is a mix, but she started laying a few weeks ago and has laid an egg every day. She is a house chicken that wears a diaper as does her house mate chicken, so we know it is her and only her laying at the moment. She doesn't want to lay in her diaper I assume, so she will sit and stare at the nesting box (a cubby in the cat tower that has a nesting pad in it), until we take her diaper off, then she'll go in and lay her egg. She does this every day. She did lay one a bit back that didn't have a shell, I assumed that can happen with new layers. Then tonight, after we put her diaper on to put her to bed, she wouldn't settle in, so I thought perhaps her diaper was crooked or bothering her. So I took it off to reposition it, and found this. It was only 20-30 minutes after we put her diaper back on her. 1 yolk, and 1 egg with no shell but it did have a yolk in it. Do I need to be worried? Or is this just typical behavior of a young new layer. She is probably about 7 months old maybe? The eggs she is laying are green, not Olive green but pastel green. She also has a sister from the same hatch that looks identical to her. That is in one of the coops that we believe is the one that has been giving us the same green egg every day for the last several weeks. I really have no idea what breed they are, but if anyone has any ideas I absolutely love this breed whatever it is because they are the sweetest sweetest birds.

Looks just like my EEs, except that she has muffs! My older one lays pale blue - mint green eggs.

The oopsie eggs are common in new layers, especially when two are released by the ovary too close together in time and don’t have the chance to become fully shelled.

I don’t know if the diaper might inhabit her and cause problems. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a house chicken this young.
