We just got these two little cuties from a local feed store in their "Assorted Bantams and Pullets" bin. I have no clue on the sex, so if anyone can tell at this point, that would be great! I really just interested in what breed they are. We already have 3 Buff Orpingtons and 1 Black Australorp. I was really wanting a silkie and/or a cochin, too. My youngest daughter picked out the buff one, and I picked out the black/yellow one. They both have such fluff-butts!

Here's Chick A:

Here's Chick B:

And here's another picture of the two together:

They both have feathery feet. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!!

I'm thinking Chick A might be a silkie, but it doesn't have 5 toes. Any more thoughts???

Silkie and cochin?

How many toes on the buff one?

Four total for each foot. Three in front and the one in back.

I thought silkie too for the first one, but it should have 5 toes. The second is a mottled bantam cochin.

silkies have 5 toes, but for some reason I thought they were the only ones with black skin. A cross of a silkie and a cochin might have 4 toes....but I am pretty sure the 5 toe gene is dominant.

In short: I dunno. But I am going to vote cochin.

Interesting! I'm a new chicken owner, so I have no clue. Here's another pic of the buff one. Are their 5 toes fairly obvious?

True! I guess I just was really hoping we got a silkie and one might somehow "sprout". I love cochins, too! They are both sweet little chicks.

the buff one looks like a silkie to me. the fifth toe is right next to (sometime part of) the back toe. if you turn the little one over and look at the bottom of its feet its easier to tell. look at both feet because sometimes one foot will have 4 and the other 5. one splash silkie i hatched was this way!

To me, it just looks like a hatchery cross gone wrong. The little tophat is an interesting development.
