I have a broody little flower hen (pictured on the right), not yet one year old, who has been sitting on one of the older chickens eggs for 24 days now! Should I let her sit one more day?

We are somewhat new to keeping chickens; this is our first broody girl and I'm learning that I've done loads of things wrong with her/her egg. Like transferring her into our air conditioned house two weeks ago, as we've been having triple digit weeks in California, and the coops unbearable! She's delighted, but I may have damaged the egg? My intentions were good... sigh...

Also, I carefully candled the egg today without rotating it and promptly returned it. There are visible veins, a large air chamber and the rest is solid and impenetrable to light. (btw- The air sack is about 20%-25% of the egg. Is this what a full term chick should have??)

Any experience sent my will be so greatly appreciated!!

We're looking forward to removing the chicken day spa from our bedroom.

:welcome and good luck with your poultry adventure! :frow I haven't had the pleasure of hatching eggs yet, broody or not. Hope someone has the answer for you :)

That is a long time for a chicken egg to hatch - maybe the air conditioned temps slowed it down. As long as it doesn't start oozing or smelling bad - I would leave it with your hen.
