:frowJust joining the craziness that is chickens! I'm planning to do some homesteading when I can get some land and need all the good info I can get about chicks and everything else. I love the community you all have and wish I had something to offer you in return! Ah, well...someday I'll have a clue and will pay it forward. I work two jobs and love to read in my limited spare moments. Would love to help The Livestock Conservancy save a few endangered breeds as part of my dream farm setup. You never know what kind of thread you will find me on here!

Hello! And welcome! Ask any questions and I'll do my best here :) I would love some interesting conversations about rare exotic birds or any kind of poultry!

Thanks, new chicken friend! I do wonder about hatcheries/breeders and the mixed reviews I see, especially when the less common breeds don't seem to have a lot of options. Do you have any experience with getting chicks or hatching eggs in the mail? Besides Ideal, Cackle, etc., there are are Sand Hill, Greenfire, etc. Any advice to share on good sources for healthy purebreds?

Well I usually get my chicks from tsc but I am going to get a new set up chicks this spring from a near by hatchery farm, you probably have a poultry farm near you and they usually sell pure breeds and many others, they also go by mail too. My friend bought chicks online and they had many defects but that could just have been the farm not treating the hens right or something. I should caution you if you plan to do that.

Welcome aboard! :frow
We are glad you joined our flock.
