Hi...
We have about 35 hens that are either laying or will be soon, have about 8 bantys that keep the barnyard free of bugs and so on. We also have 3 guineas to act as early warning alerts for anything in the coop or barnyard that might be out of order as well as to let us know someone has driven onto the property. We've got a few roosters in the mix as well and so far, none have come to blows.. We realize it's only a matter of time
Our flock is made up or many varieties of chickens. We have some Americaunas, Golden Comets, Red Stars, and a good number of what we call "canardly's" because you can hardly tell what they are. They are pretty though.
We've raised chickens many times over the course of the last 43 years and appreciate the fresh eggs we get. The girls get to range free during the day and roost inside for the night. We have a lighting setup to keep the hens happy and laying in the winter. We have it on a timer and a photo cell that triggers the on and off cycle.
I look forward to learning more about ways to keep our girls and guys healthy and happy and productive.
Thanks Everyone!
