Hi I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Cade I live in Central Alberta. I am a butcher by trade. my wife and I are looking at buying an acreage this winter so that we can start our homesteading journey.

Come April I am looking to get a handful of Indian Runner ducks for layers. the outfit we will be ordering them from only sells straight runs so we will end up eating the drakes. I am thinking I may keep one drake for breeding purposes it depends on what the wife says. I was also contemplating getting a handful of meat ducks just for the freezer but we will see.

My big reason for joining was to see about overwintering ducks in the colder climate so if there are any people with suggestions on how to best winter my layers I would be greatly appreciative.

Welcome to BackYard Chickens! I live in central Alberta as well! @chickens really will know a lot about wintering ducks.
