Hello,
My name is Travis from Mobile, AL. I have been lurking on this site for a while, but finally joined. We currently have five 4 week old chicks. A couple of days ago we transferred them to their new home, the CoopDeVille. I thought our name was unique until I started looking closer. Oh well...it will be our version of a CoopDeVille!

My YouTube channel is FlyboyTR and I have a number of videos showing the chicks, etc. Below is a video showing the coop we just completed. We are currently using for a brooder and will eventually become an actual coop for our free ranging chickens.

My thanks to BYC for a great site and an endless supply of information. ...sincerely appreciated.

Hi from Indiana,
I just got my first pair of Orpingtons from my sister. She and her 2 boys are into 4H and I have a 10 year ole they talked me into getting into chickens. Sis's 4H leader chose 2 birds for her to bring out for us.when they wanted to go to the race back in May. We're on our 2 bag of feed now. And are looking forward to next year when we get some eggs. Not sure if were going to have enough to eat. My husband has picked up 2 more Buff Orps to let our girl have for Junior Shows. We were told Whites are very rare and did not want to risk bringing home any diseases from the shows. So she will get to show the Buffs instead.
Hope everyone is enjoying their new found hobby
Anita

Thanks bucky52. I have already spent several hours reading the Forum this morning. The Poop Board/PDZ thread has been great. I may have to make an adjustment to the new coop!

Nice job on your coop. Hopefully taking that side of the coop doesn't get to be a pain in the neck, it looks heavy. Though, I do like that screen wall you can put up - ingenious! Next summer I may have to make one of two for our side doors if it gets too hot in the coop. We'll be getting our pullets in 9 more weeks and we can't wait. Lots of luck to you!

Thanks micky328. Chicksbunsdog, the side of the coop only weighs 31 pounds. So it's not too hard to remove or carry. My wife can handle it with no problem. One of the criteria was that everything be lightweight. And considering...I believe it is. If you will notice how I was holding it when I walked off camera, it is obvious it's not too heavy! :) So far the screen side has worked out good for our 4 week old chicks...sort of an open brooder! Good luck on your upcoming pullets!

Welcome to BYC.
Nice looking coop, and nice ideas.

Not to criticize, but I also tried the removable panels, but when the coop got into the weather of NC my nice tight fitting joints swelled!!!
Just a little too tight!

I ended up using metal hangers, some were custom made from angle iron.

Excellent point. Swelling will probably not cause any problems as it is sort of a loose fit. Since we painted it, the parts sort of stick together a little...but a little talcum powder should fix that. Should things warp...that will be another story! I guess time will tell. Thanks.
