Hello, this is Tonya. I've not had chickens for over 40 years, but I've ordered 5 pullets for May pick up! We live in Palmer Alaska and we will be building our insulated coop over the next month or so. I've ordered one each: Rhode Island Red, Barred Ply Rock, Cream legbar; leghorn; and Blue Sapphire. Very excited to meet them! Thx

Hello Tonya (from another Tonya) and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

If you can, I would drop the Leghorn from the order and replace her with a Wyandotte or Australorp or some other bird that is not a Mediterranean breed with a huge single comb. She will not do well in your climate at all.

Welcome! Probably a silly question as I live in Maine where the winters are quite cold...but how do chickens do during the winter in Alaska? What do you have to do to keep them warm enough?

Anyway, glad you are here!
